New Front Door Decoration

I have to begin with an apology about my horrible pictures. My husband bought me a really nice nikon camera for Christmas one year and I have never been able to get the thing to take really great pictures unless we are outside. The flash washes things out so bad.....
And if I dont use the flash...

UGH

I hate it when things don't work right. Especially when those precious moments are only for a second and you need that first shot to capture the moment immediately!

So I have some really terrible pictures but maybe you can get the idea of what I was going for.

I wanted to change my front door wreath to something that matches the flowers I have planted in pots. My spring wreath just wasnt cutting it!

Ok so you cant hardly even see it in this picture.... but it is a yellow and pink wreath.
I didnt have any flowers and really didnt want to spend any money on it.  So of course the ideas started flowing as I was trying to fall asleep last night. I was getting so excitied I almost jumped out of bed and started working! I made myself wait and when bub took his morning nap I cranked it out.  I decided to use fabric that I had laying around that wasn't doing anyone any good.

I started with a pretty plaid that was given to me by my mother in law....thanks Me-maw!  I cut out a whole stack of large circles.

I then picked one circle up in the middle and used a needle and thread to sew along the bottom of the cone shape I had.

I attached more and more cones together and came out with a great flower! I used some smaller circles in the middle to give it some dimension.

I did the same for the red flower as well.  For the white flower, I used a long strip of white fabric sewn in half.  I just wound the strip onto itself around and around and kept tacking it down with my needle and thread as I went.  As I came to the outer edges I made the wind looser and looser.

Then I cut a wide strip of fabric and tied a Martha Stewart bow to top the whole thing off.  By Martha Stewart bow I mean her style.  She taught me how to take two loops of the bow and tie them together and it makes a perfect bow every time!  Not like the old way of tying your shoelaces which makes a sideways bow usually.

Looks so much better! I plan on taking my camera in today and finding out how to use the darn thing!
